There are three sites that the EPA is reviewing for potential consolidation of toxic waste. The three sites are located very near, or in residential neighborhoods. Many young families have moved to these neighborhoods, and along the road, have developed a strong sense of community with their neighbors. The threat of a toxic waste dump in any of these locations will not only destroy these communities, but take the property values along with it. First and foremost, we want all Stratford families to be safe. The EPA wants to dump hundreds of thousands of tons of toxic waste including Asbestos, Lead, volatile organic conpounds and PCB's (all of which are know health hazards, and cancer causing agents- the EPA even has it's own extensive studies that say so. The waste will be coming from potentially 20 different sites within Stratford right here to our backyards and in close proximity to where your children are playing right now! Imagine the impact of this. For two years, the EPA will cart tons of this waste down our streets. This will mean toxic dust, truck traffic, noise, and most importantly, major health hazards for anyone who lives, works or travels here. Imagine the impact of this. For two years, the EPA will cart tons of this waste down Longbrook and/or Patterson Avenues. This will mean toxic dust, truck traffic, noise, and most importantly, major health hazards for anyone who lives, works or travels within one quarter mile (or more) of the ballfield right down the street from where you are standing. To add insult to injury, the property values of any and all properties in the surrounding neighborhoods will go down because of this. |
